The rumor mill has started churning out more reports about the iPad mini. Yesterday, we heard information from nameless industry analyst through Fortune that Apple is planning an even for Oct. 17.
Now, Japanese blog Macotakara is reporting that a factory in Brazil has begun production of the smaller sized iPad.
The information coming down the pipeline is that an unnamed Brazilian factory has started making iPad minis. Presumably, the factory in question belongs to Foxconn. Macotakara reported in July that Foxconn Brazil would be producing the iPad mini. There is no confirmation from this source about whether any factories in China are making the device.
The blog noted that the rumored rear-facing microphone hole was not present on the case being manufactured at this plant. The new iPhone 5 has a second microphone between the rear-facing camera and the flash and it was thought that new models of the iPad would follow suit.
If the rumor of an Oct. 17 event is true, we will know by next Wednesday. The original statement was that the invitations would be sent out on that date.
