Netflix Adds ‘Just for Kids’ Mode to iPad App

Finding kid-appropriate shows and movies just got easier thanks to Netflix’s new “Just for Kids” feature on the iPad. The app now offers a way to view all television shows and movies for kids 12 and under in one location with just the tap of a button.

It used to be that you’d have to call up the “Browse” menu and select from “Children & Family” in order to see kid-friendly content. Now, parents can tap the “Just for Kids” tab at the top of the screen and hand over the iPad without worrying about their little ones accidentally ending up browsing the horror films genre.

The main difference between the Children and Family section and the Just for Kids feature is the way media is categorized. The former is geared more toward mom and dad so they can choose content for the little ones. Movies and TV shows are separated into age groups or listed under sections like, “Education and Guidance,” and “Family Features.” The Just for Kids feature is set up for browsing by kids. The top section offers pictures of some of the most popular characters, like “Dora the Explorer” and “Shaun the Sheep.” Kids can tap on their favorite characters and see a list of all movies and television shows that are available. Tap a show and start watching.

Plus, the other categories are created under such titles as, “Superheroes,” “Friends,” and “Pets.”

The feature is already available in the free Netflix app for the iPad. There is no update or new version. Of course, Netflix requires a subscription to be able to view streaming content from a device.
