Get in Shape with Jillian Michaels Slim-Down Solution – iPad App Review

Jillian Michaels, a personal trainer who is best known for her appearances on The Biggest Loser and Losing It With Jillian, has a weight loss app in Apple’s App Store that is designed to help people who need extra motivation to lose weight.

This app, which has actually been around for quite some time, is well designed and easy to use. To begin, you will need to make an account, which is done by entering information like your weight and height.

After you’ve entered that, the app calculates an appropriate weight for your height. You’ll enter a fitness level (newbie, advanced, or hardcore) and you’ll also enter a preferred workout schedule.

The app is thorough, and also requests information on your metabolic type. I’m honestly not sure how anyone is supposed to determine how they “oxidize, and the app doesn’t give any hints.

After entering your metabolic rate (which seems to be equivalent to food preferences) you’ll also enter a calorie level that will help you lose weight or maintain weight.

When you’re done registering, you’ll be taken to the main journal page where you have an overview of your allotted calories for the day, which includes your recommended daily amount of protein, fat, sodium, cholesterol, carbs, fiber, and sugar.

Each day you will enter the exercise that you complete along with all of the food that you consume. The database has a range of different workouts and food items, including food from restaurants. You can even scan in packaged foods! The app keeps track of foods that you eat regularly, so it’s easy to enter your meals.

In addition to the journal, there’s also a planner where you can choose a workout routine to complete. The exercise routines are designed to ease you into working out, and they come equipped with plenty of videos and instructions so you can be sure you’re doing them right. With the planner, you can design a whole exercise plan to work out every muscle group.

The recipe section of the app comes with several healthy recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, and in the exercise section, you’ll find a bunch of individual exercises that you can do.

Finally, a tips section gives you advice on a wide range of topics, from slow metabolisms to choosing healthy foods in restaurants. All of the above is included for free, but the app also encourages you to subscribe.

Subscribers receive extra recipes and exercises, plus access to a community section of the app. This section will allow you to create an entirely personalized workout routine and diet, with 150 exercises and more than 1000 recipes. It’s $3.99 to subscribe, which is pricy, but luckily, you can try the system before you buy.

What I liked: There’s a lot of information in this app, especially on dietary choices. I really liked using it as a calorie tracker because it has a great layout and it’s easy to track what I eat. You can use it even without a subscription.

What I didn’t like: This app starts at 100 pounds, which is a bit exclusionary for the petite. $3.99 per week equates to almost $16 per month, which seems pricy even for the content.

To buy or not to buy: I recommend this app if you’re looking for something to help keep you on track in regards to food and exercise. It’s a worthwhile download even if you don’t plan to subscribe.
