Today AT&T launched its fastest 4G LTE network in 10 additional markets in advance of the iPhone 5 release tomorrow, which is Apple’s first 4G LTE capable smartphone.
The following cities are the latest to receive 4G LTE support from AT&T:
- Birmingham, AL
- Cincinnati, OH
- Fayetteville, NC
- Honolulu, HI
- Memphis, TN
- Pittsburgh, PA
- Philadelphia, PA
- Sacramento, CA
- Seattle, WA
- Wilmington, DE
These new additions come just weeks after AT&T launched 4G LTE in 9 other markets. The timing is great for the release of the iPhone 5, although no mention was made of the new Apple smartphone in the press release.
Current iPhone 4S users already see “4G” displayed on their phones in certain areas because AT&T began advertising its HSDPA network as being capable of 4G-like speeds, although it is not actually a 4G network. To make the distinction on the new iPhone and iPad, Apple will display an LTE symbol on the top left when the devices have a true 4G LTE signal.
This isn’t the last of the expansion – AT&T has promised 4G LTE support in 34 more markets before the end of the year, giving even more lucky iPhone 5 owners blazing-fast speed on their new devices.
