Turn Your Living Room Into an International Raceway With Asphalt 7: Heat – iPad App Review

When you want your racing games to be fast, action-packed and designed with the highest caliber of graphics, then Asphalt 7 is the game for you. With the flashy cars and the sweet moves, you’ll definitely want to AirPlay this one on your Apple TV.

Players enter into various races across the globe where they compete against top drivers on the city streets. The only way to progress in the championship competition is to be the best.

The first thing to do is pick a car. Players start the game with $10,000 and one first-tier car. With your current money, you can buy a “Level Sponsor” for the event, which gives a helpful boost, like earning nitro or fast acceleration after a crash.

Once you’ve picked your boost, you’ll start the race. Players compete against five other drivers on the city streets of Hawaii in the first event. Each event takes you to a different location. The course is different and the cars are faster.

Wining races earns you big bucks that you can use to upgrade your current car, or buy new cars when they become unlocked. If you want to try out a car before you’ve unlocked it, you can rent it for one race. The Delorean is going to tempt you, but I don’t suggest renting it. The thing has too slow acceleration and poor turn control. Stick with newer models.

Each “Cup” event has four courses with different challenges. Players may be entered into a race against opponents in an elimination round where drivers are eliminated every 10 seconds until there is only one left on the track, or compete in a demolition round where players must try to knockout as many players as possible.

While you do earn lots of cash that can be used to upgrade or buy new cars, players can also add cash through in-app purchases if they don’t want to earn it the hard way. The winnings are big, so you won’t need to buy an IAP, but the option is there if you want to.

The graphics in this game are what set it apart from most others. It is worth the 1.4 GB of space it will take up on your iPad. Hope you have room for it. I had to delete some old apps to make room for it.

The best way to play Asphalt 7 is by mirroring it onto your TV using AirPlay and Apple TV. The graphics look fantastic on a 42-inch HD screen. Your iPad becomes the controller with only a map of the course and your current location, while your TV becomes the course where you plow down your opponent on the big screen.

What I liked: Hands-down, the best way to play this game is using AirPlay and Apple TV

What I didn’t like: The game took no less than a half hour to download. I recommend downloading to iTunes on your computer and then adding it to your device manually. The file is huge.

To buy or not to buy: Absolutely. This game is sure to delight fans of racing games everywhere. It is too fun to pass up.

Hello, I just buy Asphalt 7 and installed on my iPhone 4, but I can’t play it over the Apple TV. Only the audio goes to the tv screen. Can you tell me how to airplay the game and use the iPhone like the controller?

Get to your multitasking bar by double-tapping your home button. Swipe the bar from left to right to get to your mirroring feature. Tap the button that looks like a rectangle with a triangle inside. Tap the “Apple TV” tab. Slide the “Mirroring” switch to on. Everything on your device should now appear on your television screen. Open Asphalt 7 and it will automatically adjust to the handheld controller.
