It’s car week here at PadGadget, so if you’re a car fanatic or have kids who love cars, you won’t want to miss this week’s posts. If you thought that car-related fun with your iPad was limited to simple apps, you’re wrong – there are quite a few iPad compatible remote control cars out there, so if you’re looking to have some real fun, check out our article after the break.
AppMATes ($12.99) – AppMATes, which are the first physical toy to digitally interact with and come to life on an iPad, are oriented towards children. These toys use the iPad (and an accompanying iPad app) to turn the tablet into a virtual playmat. The cars, which are modeled after the popular characters of Disney Pixar’s Cars 2 movie, use sensors on the bottom of the car to interact with the app. There are an endless number of worlds to explore, and kids can recreate their favorite movie moments. The app also features an array of fun games that even parents might enjoy.
Silverlit Interactive Ferrari ($79.95) – There are a range of RC cars that are designed to be controlled with your iPhone or your iPad, including this shiny red Enzo Ferarri from Silverlit Interactive. The car uses full gesture control rather than virtual joysticks, so you’ll tilt your iDevice to drive forward, backward, left, and right. There’s also a fully interactive Ferrari dashboard complete with functional lights, horn, and gauge dials, so it’s almost like driving the real thing. If you’re looking for a fun experience for kids of all ages, you won’t go wrong with this Ferrari. Not a fan of the Ferarri? You can get it as a Porsche.
App Controlled Wi-Fi Racer ($49.99) – The Porsche and the Ferrari listed above are fun, but if you’re looking for something a little more rugged, the Wi-Fi Racer is an excellent choice. This miniature racer resembles a real race car and uses an iPad app to control the car. Like the cars above, you tilt and turn your iPad to control the racer, using your device as a virtual steering wheel. This little car can travel up to 210 feet away and it also comes equipped with its very own Wi-Fi signal so you don’t need to hook it up to an external router. The best part? It’s only half a Benjamin.
Rover 2.0 App Controlled Wireless Spy Tank ($149.99) – This spy tank may be pricy, but can you really put a price tag on the ultimate toy? Rover can be driven using your iPhone or iPad, and it comes equipped with a spy camera so you can capture photos and videos to upload on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. You can control the angle of the camera with the app, and it can even see in the dark thanks to built-in night vision. How cool is that? The tank also transmits audio, so this is truly the ultimate spy toy.
Sphero by Orbotix ($129.95) – Sphero is the world’s first robotic ball and gaming device that is controlled with a tilt, touch, or swing of your iPhone or your iPad. You connect to Sphero via Bluetooth, and then download specialized Sphero apps to play with like drive and golf. You can even use the Sphero as a controller for iPad apps, making it an incredibly versatile toy. Sphero is also ultra cool because you can use your iPad to turn it any color of the rainbow, from red and green to magenta and cerulean. It’s a truly impressive iPad accessory.
