NBC’s Olympic app, which was developed for the 2012 London Summer Games, has been redesigned so that sports fans can use it all year long. The app has been retooled and renamed, turning it into the NBC Sports Live Extra app.
The new app streams live sporting events from NBC, NBCSports, and the Golf Channel, so subscribers to those channels can watch their shows anywhere and any time.
Unfortunately, if you don’t have a cable subscription that qualifies, you probably won’t be able to use the app. Most of the content requires TV Everywhere authentication to access the content, which will include MLS, NHL, LPGA, PGA, and Ryder Cup events, among others.
NBC Sports Live Extra will allow cable subscribers to stream content from the aforementioned events and it will also include additional highlights, event statistics, and social networking integration. With a third generation iPad, you can watch events in 1080p resolution.
If you have an active cable subscription and want to give it a shot, you can download the NBC Sports Live Extra app for free from the App Store.
