Belo’s WeatherCaster Brings Fresh New Look to iPad Weather App

Just in time for Isaac, Belo has released a big update to their free WeatherCaster app featuring high-definition nationwide animated radar and a new animated satellite view for visible cloud cover.  The app offers an enhanced weather experience with a customizable forecast dashboard, weather alerts and interactive maps, supplemented by forecasts, news and video from Belo’s local stations.

The WeatherCaster app was designed to cover all consumer needs in a weather app, providing basic daily forecasts at a glance while also offering more in-depth information, such as a historical almanac and glossary for weather terminology.  Users can also share their weather-related photos to a community photo gallery tied in with Facebook for a more social experience.

The radar maps in particular are very useful, with over 10 layers available covering everything from the standard storm radar to wind speed and even projected tropical storm paths, all displayed on an easily navigable pinch-and-zoom map in high definition.  There’s even a “puck” that you can drag across the map to quickly see more detail for a precise area.

The forecast dashboard’s order can be customized to put the information you need the most at the top, such as today and tomorrow’s forecast or the 7-day outlook.  The design makes it easy to get a lot of information in one glance, and the interface is really simple to use.

“Today consumers need and expect more out of their weather forecast.  Belo’s WeatherCaster takes this experience to the next level and the next screen. The app satisfies the lifestyle needs of consumers nationwide with the ability to present customizable national and hyper-local weather information,” said Joe Weir, Belo’s vice president/Digital. “Belo provides audiences news and information that makes their lives easier; WeatherCaster is another way to offer convenience to a national audience on the go.”

WeatherCaster is available exclusively for the iPad and can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
