Order & Chaos Online Gets PVP, No More Subscriptions On iPad

Gameloft wowed the iOS world with one of the first, most comprehensive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games when it first released Order & Chaos Online. It has grown in popularity to epic proportions and boasts tens of thousands of downloads.

Yesterday, the company released a major update to the game that allows users to compete against each other in Player vs. Player (PVP) arenas. Additionally, players no longer have to pay a monthly subscription. Once you’ve purchased the game for $6.99, you’re free to play for as long as you like.

Version 7.0 is a huge update. Players have been calling for PVP action since the beginning, over a year ago. Fans will be happy to see that they can now beat each other senseless for rewards in battle arenas.

Gameloft has also added riding mounts to the game. Players can now purchase Lions, Stags, Bears, and more to add to their adventure.

There are also new quests, dungeons, high-level items, and special teleportation wings that will let you fly anywhere.

The removal of subscription-based fees has received mixed reviews from players. Some feel cheated because they have been faithfully paying their $1.99 per-month dues, but suddenly monthly fees are no longer required. They could have just waited it out and played for free starting now.

Additionally, with the removal of subscription fees, it appears that Gameloft has implemented new ways to make money off of players. According to user comments at OrderChaosOnline.com, Mounts are exceedingly expensive (2,000 gold or $15) and teleportation wings will now cost about 30 runes, or $6.99 per month. Depending on how important these things are to you, you may end up spending more that you would have on a basic subscription.

Another problem arose with yesterday’s update. Players experienced lag time, bugs and long-lasting black outs. If you’ve ever played World of Warcraft and visited the support forums during a blackout, you’ll know how irate players get when they can’t log into their game. As of 6:00 a.m. PDT, I was able to log into my server and play smoothly. It appears the problems have, at least mostly been fixed.

Order & Chaos Online is $6.99 and available in the App Store. You will need an Internet connection and Gameloft Live account to play.

What about for Android? I’d rather not have to pay a subscription fee any longer!
