Boingo Wi-Finder for iOS Adds Data Usage Tracking

If you’re unfamiliar with the Boingo Wi-Finder, from Boingo Wireless, it is an app that allows you to search for Wi-Fi hotspots that are located nearby. Boingo Wireless is a company that provides a network of more than 500,000 Wi-Fi hotspots.

Boingo Wi-Finder has been around for quite some time, and today the company updated its app, adding detailed data usage tracking tools.

Many smartphone users are unclear on how much data they use each month, making Boingo’s new data tracking feature quite attractive. It can be tough to measure just how much data browsing the web or watching a video on YouTube uses, so having data at your fingertips is handy.

With the Wi-Finder app, you can now track your data usage each month to avoid exceeding your data limits, potentially saving you money. To use the feature, you input your mobile data plan allowance, the cost of data per gigabyte, and the day of the month your billing plan starts. From there, the app is able to track your Wi-Fi and cellular usage, to let you know how much money you save by using Wi-Fi over 3G or 4G

While the Boingo Wi-Finder app is a free download from the App Store, Boingo’s network services will run you approximately $1.99 for 60 minutes of Wi-Fi access.
