I know that if you were forced to choose, your favorite thing to do has something to do with conference calls. Okay, perhaps I guessed wrong. Unfortunately, especially with the growing number of telecommuters and remote offices, conference calling is a necessary evil for many of us. The problem of course, is trying to figure out exactly what time it is in every location that your colleagues happen to be in (or perhaps you work with somebody like me that lives in a part of the world that does not observe daylight savings time so my actual time zone varies throughout the year). Add to this that a few of us working with overseas colleagues and vendors need to try and schedule calls at a time when it’s the least invasive: not the wee hours of the morning for you or the moonlight hours for them. Fortunately, Meetup Time can help!
The app is very easy to use. Invite individuals from up to 10 locations while you retrieve and display the scheduling information for those time selected time zones (plus auto-adjustment for Daylight Savings Time).
Build in color legends let you see regular office hours, amber for borderline outside of office hours and red for times that are unreasonable or not recommended.
Once you have things all figured out, export your plans to iCal, email or even just the clipboard for use in other apps.
What I liked: It may seem like a small thing, but I adore the fact that when you are selecting a meeting date within the app it tells you the year, month and date but also tells you what day of the week that falls on. I don’t know how many times I’ve finally chosen the perfect day only to discover it falls on the one day a week that colleague doesn’t work.
What I didn’t like: It was a little disappointing that my location wasn’t in the list, and not only that –there was no city in my province which means that there was no obvious selection for my particular time zone based on that.
To buy or not to buy: This is a fantastic app that serves a fantastic purpose, but I’m forced to give it a mediocre review because you don’t know until you purchase it whether your location (or the location of those people you are having meetings with) will be included. If the developers improve the list, the rating would be top notch!
