Catch Some Great College Games This Season Using Kayak

If you’re not familiar with Kayak, it is a travel search engine site that also has a handy, easy to use iPad app that’s the perfect solution for finding and booking great rates on hotels, flights, and rental cars.

Kayak is a great trip planning resource, and with football season coming up, it may just come in handy. Thinking about a trip to visit your alma mater to catch a college game? Kayak has you covered.

This app has a simple interface, so getting started on trip planning is a quick and painless task. You just need to know where you’re going and when (by the way, it’s best to book about three to six weeks beforehand). So, for example, if you were heading off to see the first Notre Dame game on September 8th, you’d want to book your trip to Indiana now.

After entering your travel details, Kayak automatically finds you the cheapest flight from several different travel websites. A trip from San Francisco to Indiana came up at $307, which was the lowest price I could find, even after comparing several other travel options including other discount sites and discount airlines. That’s quite a bargain.

You will need to book your flight through Kayak’s partner website, which is a bit of a hassle, but the app does make it as easy as possible by including autofill information that you can use to automatically input your details in any travel site.

At the same time that you book your flight, you can also book your hotel and your rental car. Kayak displays hotel results from Priceline, Orbitz, Cheaptickets, and more, so you can find the best deal with a single search.

I did find that prices listed for hotels were slightly more inaccurate than prices listed for flights. For example, one listing for a 3 star hotel was set at $83 per night, but when I tapped to book, there was nothing available under $92.

Still, this app was accurate for the most part, and did provide me with cheap listings. I found comparable prices on other sites like Expedia, but no better prices. I did find a good (two star) hotel room in Indiana for under $70, which equates to a pretty low cost trip. If Kayak doesn’t have the lowest hotel price (you can book hotels in app, by the way) it will take you directly to the website that does.

Car rentals work in a similar way. My trip info was already entered thanks to the hotel and airline booking, so renting a car took just a few extra taps. Once again, Kayak had fantastically low prices, at just $22 to $40 per day for a simple compact car.

If you’re not sure where you want to go but want a cheap vacation, Kayak can help. It has a destination search, where you can input your flight budget and get a list of places on a map that you can afford to visit. It’s a fun way to get vacation ideas.

The app also includes a flight tracker so you can track your flights to get up to the minute information, and an option to log in to view all of your planned trips. All in all, if you’re planning a trip, whether to see a football game or go on a family vacation, Kayak is a must have app.

It can help you every step of the way, simplifying the hassle of making travel plans and ensuring that you get the best prices on flights, hotels, and cars. It really can save you a bundle of money.

Kayak is a free app, and it can be downloaded right now from the App Store.
