We’re so afraid of the walking dead. Whether you blame Zora Neale Hurston’s recount of the Haitian girl come back from the dead, or George A. Romero’s grave-walking brain eaters, we’re terrified of zombies. What if the undead were just like us and like playing jump rope or are bad at math? The zombie in this game is just misunderstood monsters. Help Zomb and his friends get through an average school day, trying to avoid the Anti-Monster Squad.
This is a physics-based game where the monsters are linked to a circle at the beginning of the round. Players can line up the shot, but only by rotating a zombie one direction or another. The monsters will ricochet around off of walls, platforms and other obstacles, but once they hit their mark, that is once they knock down an Anti-Monster Squad member, they stop moving.
There are three Anti-Monster Squaders on each level. Players must knock over all three of them in order to progress to the next level. There are also three brains on each level. However, brains don’t need to be eaten, that is just for fun.
There are lots of different types of obstacles to keep Zomb from getting the bad guy. For example, there are moving platforms that get in the way, or wooden blocks that protect the Anti-Monster Squader.
Luckily, Zomb has friends, monster friends, and they can really stir things up. Vamp heats things up with a ball of fire that can burn through wooden blocks. Bomber blows up bad guys, even through stone walls. With the help of his friends, Zomb can do anything.
There are 60 levels with four special “Brain” levels that are much harder to successfully complete. To unlock a Brain level, collect all brains on each level of a particular row. The brain levels are not part of the campaign, so if you don’t solve the puzzle, you can still play the next.
This is a fairly challenging puzzle game. It is not so hard that you give up right away, but it is not so easy that you can beat the whole game in an hour. Once you get into the higher levels, you’ll really start to sweat.
What I liked: Zomb and his friends make these cute noises. You’ll hear them say things like, “Aw Yeah,” or “ Hmm, hmm, hmm.” The song is also really catchy.
What I didn’t like: The game is just a little to pricey for being a simple casual game. It should be priced at $0.99
To buy or not to buy: If you like puzzle games and have a sympathetic heart for the walking dead, you’ll get a kick out of Zig Zag Zombie
