Turn Your iPad Into the Productivity Tool it is Meant to Be with WritePDF

I’ve said this before. It is hard for me to have an unbiased view of PDF reader apps because I love GoodReader so much. However, every once in a while an app comes along that makes me give pause.

WritePDF is less of a reader and more of an editor. It is highly complex, versatile, works with many different types of documents and offers a nearly unlimited amount of functionality for users who need a workhorse in their PDF editing tool.

This full-featured PDF app is probably about as close as one can get to Adobe’s popular Reader Pro as possible. Users can convert various types of documents to PDFs, add images and shapes, handwrite notes, highlight text, add hyperlinks, rearrange page order, fill in PDF forms, combine documents into one, and even print without the need of an AirPrint-enabled printer.

Users can edit a PDF by highlighting words and sentences, rewriting text, adding hyperlinks, merging documents, adding shapes with or without colors, and filling in and signing a form. Direct printing can either be done by using an AirPrint-enabled printer, or by using WePrint on a Mac or PC. If you don’t have an AirPrint-enabled printer, install WePrint on the desktop or laptop computer that is connected to your printer and send any document in WritePDF to it through local Wi-Fi.

Users can also edit documents that have been edited by others using a different program or software. If you want to move entire pages around in one document it is as simple as pushing a button. Users can tap and drag any page from one place to another. You can copy pages, text and drawings from other documents and even save drawings as templates for later use.

In addition to this complex PDF editing took, you can access your iPad’s calendar information and even turn it into a PDF document. You can do the same thing with your iPad’s contacts.

The multitude of features is so great that the app includes a separate step-by-step manual that can be downloaded in parts. There is also a 24-hour help line for real-life help. If you experience a crashing issue, the app will prompt you to send an error report to the developers who are constantly working to fix problems and make the app an even more useful and usable program.

What I liked: I love being able to convert other forms of documents into PDFs and combine multiple documents into one.

What I didn’t like: The app runs a little slow and highlighting text is annoying because selecting text doesn’t automatically grab an entire word. It only selects one letter. There are other design issues that aren’t user friendly and take time getting used to. However they do not detract from the strength of this app’s abilities.

To buy or not to buy: The app is a little on the pricey side. However, it is very useful, complex and full-featured making it more of a bargain for what you get. If you need a strong editing tool for PDF files on your iPad, this is probably the best one I’ve seen in its class.
