Gather ‘Round the Virtual Happy Campfire – iPad App Review
I don’t think there is any question that campfires are the best part of summer. I’m sure you’ve asked yourself this a million times, but what is your answer for how the iPad can fill in when you just can’t get out to that firepit? Luckily the Happy Campfire is here to help; no more waiting for that next camping trip to gather the family around a roaring fire to sing songs, roast s’mores, view the night sky and tell scary stories.
Watching (and listening to) a campfire roar on your iPad screen may not be as relaxing as it would be otherwise, but in a way that reminds me of the yule log channel on television at Christmas time, it is quite entertaining. You can even choose different colors of flame for your fire which reminds me of my childhood when we would throw in copper pipe to see that very thing happen. (Are you even allowed to do that anymore? Please don’t try this at home. Don’t tell your mother/brother/uncle’s dog that I recommended you do that.)
Other features in the app let you sing songs against some provided beats and sounds, admire the night sky (while painting it with stars in any pattern you so choose) and add scary sound effects to your favorite ghost stories!
What I liked: The real value in a campfire (and the activities that literally surround it) can be measured in time spent together with people you care about. This app gives you the opportunity to take a few minues out of your busy schedule here and there to make somebody smile.
What I didn’t like: I was hoping that the campfire songs in the app would be some of the traditional type camp songs that we all know and love, but they were a little disappointing.
To buy or not to buy: This app is cheesy as heck but it doesn’t pretend not to be, making it really fun.
