Get a Look at the Newest Tunes with the Billboard Hot 100: Music Videos App

We’re all familiar with the Billboard Music Chart, which regularly tracks the hottest singles in the United States, organizing rankings by radio play and sales. You can now get an in-depth look at those songs with Billboard Hot 100: Music Videos.

In this app, you’re able to check out the chart and stream videos from the popular songs on the chart each week. And the best part? It’s totally free.

When opening the app, you’ll see an immediate visual representation of the week’s chart, with the most popular songs on top. This week’s chart toppers include “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen, “Payphone” by Maroon 5, and “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye.

You can watch any of those videos, or any other video from the top 100 songs on the chart. A numeric marker in the corner of each video icon lets you know if the song has moved positions on the chart, with green for up, red for down, and gray for no movement at all.

To watch a video, you just tap on the icon, which plays the entire song directly from YouTube. The app has a very straightforward and easy to use layout, which is great for music discovery. This app isn’t about clips or short samples of tracks – you get the whole song here.

You can share your favorite songs on Facebook or Twitter, and you can also tap “Buy Song” when the video is playing, and it will take you to iTunes where you’re able to purchase the track. It’s simple, painless, and quite useful.

From the menu, you can also access recent songs that you’ve played as well as check out the archive of popular songs from earlier this year. You can listen to the top ten songs from each week in 2012, and it’s fun to look back at what was hot just a couple of months ago. For example, in January, we were all about “I’m Sexy and I Know It,” from LMFAO.

There is, of course, a small ad in the bottom left corner of the app, but honestly, you hardly notice it when using the app.

If you’ve got some time to kill or want to check out what’s hot at the moment, this is a great app to download and a great deal, thanks to its easy to use design and barely there ads.

What I liked: The ads aren’t intrusive at all, and removing the ads costs a very fair $0.99. This app is well designed and it’s a really handy tool for checking out videos and discovering popular music.

What I didn’t like: I didn’t have many complaints about this app, but I would like to see an option to get song lyrics as well, which would make this great app even better.

To buy or not to buy: If you want to find out what’s topping the charts and watch videos from popular bands, this free app is a must download.
