Turn Your iPad into the Ultimate Photo Party Tool With Fun Photography Apps

Summer is the perfect time for parties. There are birthdays, weddings, and of course, barbecues. Whatever occasion you’re planning, you can use your iPad and a few apps to turn an ordinary party into an extraordinarily memorable event.

Photography apps may not be the first thing to come to mind when you think of the iPad, but the iPad 2 and Apple’s newest iPad both have cameras that are perfect for quirky, fun photos when combined with some awesome photography apps.

It may seem silly to take photos with your iPad, but if you download an app like PowerCam HD (Free), you can take photos that aren’t possible with most traditional cameras.

PowerCam HD is a live filter picture taking app, meaning you can see the many filters that the app has in real time. Want to see what the photo will look like in sepia, or with a sketch filter? You’ll be able to see the effects right away, with no post processing.

The app has more than 50 different filters, to make an array of unique photos. You can use cross processing or vintage for a film camera look, or try out posterize or thermal for something more modern. There are even filters like enlarge, narrow, and whirl for funny looking faces, and the best part? It also works with video.

You can set the iPad up on a stand and use the front facing camera to take timed group shots, and photos can be shared instantly on all of your favorite social networks.

PowerCam HD is just one of the many photo apps available. At parties I’ve attended, I’ve also had a lot of fun with the photobooth style apps. These apps, such as Incredibooth (from the makers of Hipstamatic!) and Pocketbooth are able to turn your iPad into a portable photobooth, which can be a lot of fun.

Pass the iPad around the party and have people pose for four quick-succession shots, just like in a real booth. It’s the perfect way to preserve fun memories, and if you throw in some props like feather boas, silly hats, and ridiculous glasses, everyone will have a blast making photo strips.

Both of the above mentioned apps, priced at just $0.99, have several retro filters included, so your photos are guaranteed to come out great.

Like with PowerCam, you can share these photos instantly on social networks like Facebook and Twitter, but if you happen to have an Apple TV, you can show off all the fun live on your big screen television. Just enable AirPlay and the photos you take can be shared instantly with everyone at the event.

AirPlay is also a fantastic option when you’ve got event photos from vacations and weddings to show off. It takes a few simple taps to share your pictures with everyone.

When iOS 6 comes out, you’ll also be able to share photos from apps like Incredibooth and PowerCam HD with your friends using the shared Photo Stream, which will make your iPad an even more robust party photography tool.

If you host or attend a party or event this year, make sure to include your iPad. With the right apps, it will help you capture memories that will last a lifetime.
