Hit The Road With Zombie Run HD – iPad Game Review

Are you getting tired of running through the same old temples with the same old adventurer? If so, why not head for a tropical island full of monsters? Grab a zombie and run across broken planks, jump over fallen logs and dive under low-lying bridges as you try to escape from angry villagers who want to turn you into fish food.

Since Temple Run became the most popular endless runner game in the App Store, lots of developers have been trying to ride the game’s coattails to fame. Zombie Run HD is no exception. It is, however, just as fun and plenty challenging.

Players start the game running. To jump, swipe the iPad’s screen upward. To duck and slide, swipe downward. If you need to move to the left or right to avoid obstacles, you can tilt your device to move out of the way. I figured out that you can also swipe to the left or right, but you have less control over how far your runner goes, which could lead to his death if he takes too much damage. You will also need to swipe left or right in order to turn a certain direction on the walkway, otherwise the runner will find himself in deep water.

As you run, you will collect potions that can be used to buy power ups and unlock characters. When you buy a power up, it enables it in the game. You will still have to grab it on the run in order to use it. Players can add potions through an in-app purchase. You may want to spend the extra dough if you want to unlock a new monster. The cheapest one will cost 10,000 potions. If you’re really good and fairly patient, you will eventually collect 10,000 potions, but they don’t make it easy.

One unfortunate aspect about this game is that it costs money to download. This should be a “Freemuim” game. Although nothing more than a clone of Temple Run with a different skin, this game is fun to play and gives fans of the endless runner genre a new title to enjoy. It isn’t going to win awards or become the next big thing in the App Store, but it is a decent game.

What I liked: It is fairly challenging. The further you get in the game, the more difficult the course becomes. It gives the game a high replay value.

What I didn’t like: This game should be free. The devs will make money off of in-app purchases. There is not need to charge players just to start playing the game.

To buy or not to buy: If you like Temple Run and want to try something else that plays the same but looks different, then you’ve found the right app.
