Rovio, of Angry Birds fame, has an all new game in the works. This week, the company registered the domain name amazingalex.com, and today, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed confirmed the news.
While appearing on a Finnish television station, Hed told viewers that Rovio’s next game will indeed be called Amazing Alex, and will star a “curious young boy who loves to learn things.”
On a teaser site, Rovio shows blonde-haired Alex posing next to a sign that says “Amazing Alex, Coming Soon!” The site also links to both a Facebook page and a Twitter account announcing the upcoming game.
Alex looks remarkably like an older version of Casey, the title character of Casey’s Contraptions, which Rovio recently purchased, so clearly, Amazing Alex is an offshoot of Casey’s Contraptions.
If you haven’t played Casey’s Contraptions, it’s a game that focused on the creation of Rube-Goldberg type machines to complete tasks. Using various tools, such as shelves, magnets, balloons, scissors, and more, players built contraptions to reach stars on the screen. CEO Hed had this to say about the game: “The quality pressure is high. We want to maintain the high standard Angry Birds fans have come to enjoy.” He also told viewers that the game will feature an educational element.
Hed said that we should expect the release of Amazing Alex to come within the next two months.
