iPad Runs Apps in Separate Windows with New Jailbreak Tweak

We all go through the same experience. We’re reading status updated from our Facebook friends and want to check our email for a second, but the only way to do so is to either close the Facebook app altogether, or double-tap the home button to call up the multitask bar. However, even multitasking doesn’t allow iPad users to be able to see both screens at the same time.

One complaint common among iPad users is the inability to have multiple windows open at the same time. Now, a jailbreak called Quasar solves that dilemma for those brave enough to hack their operating system. This is so cool that it might actually be worth it to nullify the iPad’s warranty.

Created by Pedro Franceschi, Quasar allows iPad and iPhone users the ability to open more than one app at a time and view them side-by-side. Apps can be minimized, increased in size and moved around the screen. When an app is moved, it becomes transparent so that you can see what is directly underneath. Like a web browsing window on a desktop computer, the apps layer on top of each other and move to the forefront when tapped.

The only way to get your iPad to display multiple app windows at the same time is through a jailbreak, which is something that the average user isn’t too keen on. Not only does it require some, if only minimal, level of technology understanding, but downloading the feature will invalidate the iPad’s warranty. It’s not called a “jailbreak” for nothing.

If you are a jailbreaker, you can get a copy of Quasar for $9.99 from the Cydia Store and start really multitasking today. To see what it would be like to have multiple apps open on your iPad’s screen at the same time, check out the video below.
