Those of you with Verizon data plans for your third generation iPad will be happy to hear that the cellphone giant is planning to expand its LTE coverage.
Verizon just announced that this week’s major expansion, which will go live on Thursday, will bring LTE coverage to two thirds of the population in the United States.
The expansion will include LTE in 27 new markets as well as additional coverage in 44 other markets, for a total of 230 markets with LTE. Verizon doesn’t plan to stop there, though.
By the end of 2012, the company expects that it will have LTE coverage available for 260 million people, which is more than 80 percent of the U.S. population.
Verizon is currently the carrier with the largest LTE network, though AT&T is rapidly expanding its own network to keep up.
