Bizzy Bear is an exceptionally busy little bear with a long list of chores to get done on the farm. Follow Bizzy as he feeds apples to the pigs, helps the dog get a drink of water or as he rounds up all of the sheep back into their pen.
This app goes beyond most interactive books by featuring content that is truly interactive (and not just reactive). Bizzy requests your help and guides you along in ways that are completely dependent on your actions.
For children just learning to read and enjoy books, Bizzy helps in very special ways. Prompting you to help the ducks bob in the water or encouraging your children to count the animals, this story is educational as much as enjoyable.
While you are on any given page there are little blue dots that flash on elements you need to work with. This is an excellent way to direct small fingers toward learning opportunities. Fortunately Bizzy also identifies the animals by name and narrates his actions with phrases like “Let’s try opening one of those little doors.” so children can begin to appreciate cause and effect.
What I liked: If you restart the app there is a prompt to resume or restart the story. Especially for young children, this can be a very nice feature when there are interruptions (I am thinking specifically about when they are potty training) and you can easily pick up where you left off.
What I didn’t like: While I do enjoy that Bizzy will encourage you along to new activities in the story, it sometimes feels rushed. Young children like to tap around and enjoy the animations and interactive elements and Bizzy is sometimes a little over-eager.
To buy or not to buy: This app is another home run from the developers at Nosy Crow. If you have a child between the ages of 2-4 I wouldn’t hesitate to grab this app.
