New iPad 3 Rumors: Photos of Touch Screen Digitizer Shows There is a Home Button

An iPhone blog site named RepairLabs is claiming to have its hands on a couple of a digitizers from the upcoming iPad 3. The digitizer is basically the part that controls the tablet’s touch function, as well as the front glass.

If the pictures are real, it confirms that the iPad 3 will come in both black and white and be only 1mm thicker than the iPad 2.

The images show a black and white digitizer from both front and back. The front shows the elusive home button that so many people have been speculating on recently. The back shows that this version has a different digitizer connection. If it’s real, it confirms that the iPad 3 will have a different logic board than the iPad 2.

It also would confirm that the third generation Apple tablet will look almost identical to the iPad 2, which leads me to believe it may not get the “3” title that we all keep giving it.

When the iPhone 4S was released, it looked exactly the same as the iPhone 4 from the outside, but had a major overhaul on the inside.  The new iPad is rumored to have an A6 quad-core processor, a Retina display and 4G LTE support, but looks just like the iPad 2 on the outside. Will Apple call this new tablet the iPad 2S?
