Super Word Search is a simple word searching game that will delight word game fans with its challenging puzzles, hard to find words, and time limits.
The game has over 500 puzzles and 10,000 words, in a variety of categories like vocabulary, geography, nature, music, science, sports, animals, electronics, celebration, and more.
Many of the puzzles feature tough words that you’ve probably never heard of before, so it can be challenging finding all of the words in a timely manner. There are four different game modes:
Levels: You start with 45 seconds, and for each word found, you win more time to finish the puzzle. You must find a word before the timer runs out or you will lose a life, and if you solve it in time, you will advance to a new puzzle.
Frenzy: You start with 13 seconds, and for each word found, you win additional time. If the time runs out, you lose a life, so this is essentially a tougher version of levels.
Timed: You start with 1:30 on the timer and you need to solve the puzzle before the time runs out. You get extra points for every second left on the timer when you’re done.
Relaxed: No time keeping at all – solve puzzles at your own pace.
In each puzzle, you’re given a list of words to find, and the words will go in all directions – forwards, backwards, diagonal, up, down, backwards diagonal, and so on, which gives a decent challenge. Circle words by dragging along the letters with your fingers, and find all of the words to win.
If you get stuck, there’s a hint button that will show you one of the words so you don’t run out of time. It has a short recharge, but can be used multiple times per level, though it will deduct five points from your score every time you use it. There’s no Game Center support, unfortunately, but the game does track your high scores internally.
What I liked: There’s a lot of puzzles available, so you can play this game for hour after hour without having to repeat content.
What I didn’t like: There is no way to sort the puzzles by difficulty, so you never know what you’re going to get when you pick a category and a puzzle. This is a big negative. It would also be nice to have a dictionary feature to allow users to look up some of the words used, since many of them are a bit obscure. The lack of Game Center support (leaderboards and achievements) was also a disappointment.
To buy or not to buy: If you like word search puzzles, this game will definitely give you the challenge that you crave.
