We’re getting closer to the much anticipated March 7th announcement of the next generation iPad, and as a result, the leaks, rumors, and endless speculations that precede the release of any iDevice are currently in full force.
According to information released this morning, which includes official model numbers of the anticipated upcoming Apple products (see the list at the bottom of the page), the Apple TV, which has been codenamed J33, is going to be announced alongside the iPad 3.
The Apple TV (the set top box, not the full on television – sorry guys!) is expected to include a faster processor (perhaps that A5X we’ve read so much about) and the ability to stream 1080p video. You’ll only see one model number below, and that’s because Apple only releases one version of its set-top box.
There are, according to part numbers, three next-generation iPad variants: the J1, which is the WiFi only iPad and the J2 and J3, which are cellular data versions with some combination of GSM, CDMA, and LTE. My guess? There will be a WiFi iPad, a 3G iPad, and a 4G LTE iPad.
The numbers also reveal that the iPads are going to come with three different storage sizes, though it’s impossible to tell what they are just by looking at the digits. It’s likely that Apple will continue with its 16/32/64 trend, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that those numbers could shift to 32/64/128.
There’s also a rumor of an unknown accessory that may launch with the iPads and the Apple TV. No one knows what it is, but it’s called “B82” internally. It could be a cable, a cover, or a remote (for the new Apple TV). Guess we’re in for a surprise on March 7th!
