The application functions without need of an Internet connection. To get started with iMuscle, tap on the area of the muscle man that you wish to strengthen. Using the app, the viewer is able to see the muscle in 3D and rotate it 360 degrees. The app includes more than 450 3D animated exercises and stretches, complete with instructions and hints to help you get the most out of your work out.
With iMuscle’s impressive UI, users can search iMuscle by individual muscles or by exercises. iMuscle accommodates multiple users and multiple saved workouts for a single user. These features make iMuscle appropriate for fitness instructors or physical therapists, since the app can be used to explain anatomical information to clients.
The app allows the user to view the body’s musculature from a number of different angles (i.e. anterior, lateral, posterior) and gesture controls enable the user to zoom in to an area.
iMuscle works in portrait or landscape mode, and can be set to work in pounds or kilograms.
What I liked: It was really easy to navigate through iMuscle and create a workout that was customized. The number of exercises included for each muscle gives the user some choice about how to strengthen or stretch an area of interest.
What I didn’t like: There were a few exercises, particularly those designed to strengthen neck muscles, that could cause injury if not done correctly, which is why the user should not proceed with this or any other exercise program without consulting with their physician.
To buy or not to buy: Whether the user is new to weight training or a serious body builder, iMuscle is a great value. Not only is the app full of useful information, but it prompts the user to follow through with a workout and tracks a user’s progress.
