Steve Jobs Doll Maker Decides to Call it Quits

Steve Jobs Action FigureIn news that comes as no surprise, the controversial Steve Jobs action figure designed by Hong Kong company In Icon won’t be seeing the retail light-of-day.

This decision to stop production and prevent sales of the doll was made following threats (in the form of ‘immense pressure’ to use the words of Tandy Cheung from In Icon) of legal action coming from Apple and Jobs’ family. It really is too bad.

Windows 8 Tablets Reportedly won’t Challenge iPad Pricing

Windows 8 TabletNews coming from DigiTimes suggests that the elusive Windows 8 tablets that seem to be getting closer and closer to market may be hitting retail shelves at the same price-points we have come to expect from Apple. If this is true, it will mean that the new Microsoft-powered tablets will not be much competition for the tablets at the lower end of the price-spectrum such as Amazon’s Kindle Fire or RIM’s PlayBook. Unfortunately for the hardware vendors themselves this is due in large part to the prices coming from Intel for the processors needed to power their devices.

Apple Becomes the First Tech Company to Join the Fair Labor Association

The Fair Labor Association (FLA) recently accepted Apple into its organization as a Participating Company. This agreement makes Apple the first technology company to join the FLA, setting a standard for others in the electronics industry.

Apple has a Code of Conduct that it requires its suppliers to adhere to if they are to do business with them. The Code is monitored with Apple-led facility audits, corrective action plans and termination of relationships with suppliers that don’t follow the Code. Apple also publishes a yearly progress report covering supplier audits, violation discoveries and correction plans.

Apple Outpaces Disney as the World’s Most Valuable Brand

Bloomberg recently released Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2011 report showing that Apple flew to within the top-ten most valuable brands in the world in 2011, up nine places from 2010. Being the eighth most valuable brand puts Apple above the likes of Hewlett-Packard, Samsung and Sony.

In fact, the electronics giant is valued higher than the world’s most beloved cartoon creator, Disney.

The iPad Dominates the Future of Retail Point-Of-Sale Purchasing

Aruba Networks recently conducted a survey regarding future business plans for in-store mobility. Apple’s iPad and iPhone topped the list of devices that businesses plan to implement in 2012 and 2013 to assist with support for advanced applications such as mobile point-of-sale (PoS) purchases.

At this year’s National Retail Federation (NRF) Trade Show, the big announcements are related to the future of mobile PoS solutions. It looks like the iPad is getting another leg up against the competition.
