Bang & Olufsen Brings High-End Design to AirPlay Speakers

If you’re not aware, Bang & Olufsen is a retailer that sells luxury, integrated audio-video solutions and services, aka gorgeously designed speakers and home theater systems that will definitely put a dent in your pocketbook.

The company released a brand new line today, the B&O Play, which is geared towards products that are more playful and portable. The first offering in the line, the Beolit 12 portable music system, provides cutting-edge sound quality in a stylish, compact design.

Beolit 12, created by Danish designer Cecilie Manz, follows the success of the BeoSound 8 sound system for iPad/iPhone docking, with high-quality sound performance, impeccable craftsmanship, and wireless operation.

The speaker uses Apple’s AirPlay technology to allow you to play music wirelessly from your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or PC when connected to your home wireless network. It is designed to be portable, with a built-in power supply and rechargeable battery that can play music for up to eight hours. With a 120 Watt digital Class D power amplifier, 2” tweeters, and a 4” subwoofer, the Beolit 12 promises to deliver powerful, accurate sound that will fill a medium sized room.

Bang & Olufsen’s new portable Beolit 12 is its most affordable sound system, priced at $799. The Beolit 12 will arrive in showrooms and stores in late January 2012. Only the dark grey model will be available initially, but the company has plans to release the system in yellow, blue, and light grey this spring.
