The Pirate Koostoe – An Interactive Children’s Book- iPad App Review

Ahh to be a child again, wishing for adventure, imagining the life of an astronaut, a ballerina or a pirate. Little Koostoe (pronounced like the famous ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau) wants to be a pirate, too.

Join him as he goes on his own adventure and learns what it is like to find real treasure in this interactive children’s book.

The app acts less like a book and more like an animated story as each page seems to come to life. The angle of each image changes as the story progresses. Some pages will zoom out to show a full shot of the story’s action. Others will have additional animation that can be discovered when tapped.

The story itself is what makes the book so special. It is original and interesting without being awkward or overdone. It is the perfect story for young ones who like adventure. The moral is easy to understand and important for life.

At the end of the book there are a few discussion questions to help your child understand the story and talk about what they learned. The read-to-me narration is pleasant and well-acted.

What I liked: The story was interesting and educational while also being fun and adventurous.

What I didn’t like: I would like to have seen more interactive animation on each page. Some didn’t have any interactivity at all.

To buy or not to buy: This is a great book at a great price.
