Facebook’s Timeline Coming to iPad App Soon

Facebook Timeline

We’ve already seen the new Facebook Timeline view on our desktops, iPhones and Android devices so the only thing left is the requisite update for the iPad app which we have now learned is coming soon. Described as “[telling] your life story with a new kind of profile,” this new view of your life is much more graphical and attempts to paint a from-birth style picture for each of us.

With Timeline, you can enter in details about your life that happened pre-Facebook. This is especially nice for those of you that use Facebook to share older photographs or historic stories and details that you think your friends and family may be interested in. (it could also be a good way to embarrass those old out-of-touch-but-still-stalking-you highschool friends of yours…)

It may be frustrating to see yet another change, but we could have guessed this was coming. Facebook needed to come up with a way to for better long-term (aka more and more information) profile management. Like every other Facebook update, the changes are never well received but once people grow accustomed the acceptance level is very high and we wonder how we ever lived with things any other way.

We were supposed to see the update in December, but those in the know are now projecting a mid to late January release for the update. The reasons cited all seem to point toward bugs that need to be squashed, which means we should be happy to wait. The current Facebook app works really well so why trade up for something that doesn’t? The truth is that with the iPad app itself taking a virtual eon to be released in the first place we are pretty used to being patient.

In addition to the timeline updates, the new version of the app promises improved photo and subscriptions management, and better Friends List support.
