Avatar is an epic science fiction film that was finally released in 2009, after 25 years in development. Director James Cameron delayed the film until technology caught up with his immersive vision of a lush planet inhabited by the gentle, blue-skinned golden-eyed Na’vi.
At release, the wildly popular movie broke box office records and quickly became the highest-grossing movie of all time – earning over two billion dollars. As of next week, you can relive the Avatar experience with the all new interactive “Avatar iTunes Extras Special Edition,” which allows fans to deconstruct the most memorable scenes in the movie to find out the secrets behind the special effects.
The new movie edition will allow fans to control scene deconstructions in simultaneous views and interact with the performance capture and visual effects in 17 film scenes. This is the first time that Green Screen X-ray has been used to give users a look at the different levels of visual effects to see the original footage behind an important scene.
This re-released digital version of Avatar also includes the original screenplay by James Cameron, Cameron’s scriptment (featuring scenes and dialogue), and a gallery of 1,700 images from filming.
“Avatar iTunes Extras Special Edition” is available in the iTunes Store for pre-order beginning today. It retails for $19.99 for HD or $14.99 for SD, and will be released on Tuesday, December 20th.
