Apple Can’t Keep a Good Hacker Down
Fonehome recently reported that two prominent hackers are on the verge of finding an untethered jailbreak to iOS 5. It appears that there will always be people around to discover a way in and out of the “walled garden.”
Currently, the only way to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad is with a tethered solution. This means that restarting your iDevice would render it useless until it was connected to a computer again. An untethered solution is a must-have for those wishing to completely free their iDevice of iOS security restrictions.
Via his Twitter feed, hacker MuscleNerd revealed that an updated version of the jailbreak tool RedSn0w would hit Windows and Mac in the near future. This update would enable a full, untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.
Additionally, pod2G posted a video of an untethered jailbreak that can be viewed at JailbreakMatrix. There is no information from either hacker or anyone in the community as to how soon the jailbreak will be available, but we’re all rooting for them.
