Hot iOS Toys for Your Christmas Shopping

There are only 20 days left until Christmas morning, and as we all know, the month of December seems to fly by faster than any other month of the year. It’s time to start finalizing your gift lists and getting down into the nitty gritty of shopping, in stores and online.

If you’re still in need of a gift for your favorite iPad or iPhone owner, you may want to look into some of these great toys that are designed to be used in conjunction with an iDevice. We’ve rounded up some of the coolest iOS toys, from steering wheels and interactive guns to helicopters and race cars controlled with an iDevice.

These aren’t just for kids either – I can think of a few adults who would love a car or a helicopter to play with during office breaks. Without further ado, check out our list.

The appBlaster – $32

The first four products are all from the same innovative iOS toy accessory maker, Apptoyz. This first toy, the appBlaster, is the first interactive gun designed for gaming. Your iPhone or your iPod Touch attaches to the gun where the sight would be located, and the trigger connects to two feelers that touch the screen, emulating your shooting. This is a fun device, but it is a bit limited because it only works with specially designed apps from Apptoyz. At this time, there are three games with another in the works.

The appCopter – $95

The appCopter is an awesome helicopter that you can fly using your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. This helicopter, available in red with chrome accents, looks great and can be flown with precise motion controls. Operation is simple: plug the included peripheral into your iDevice and you can use the accelerometer and tilt functions or D-Pad to fly the helicopter. It also includes a speaker for a range of sound effects.

The appRacer – $78

This off road buggy-style race car works much like the appCopter. With an included peripheral and a free Apptoyz app, it can be driven with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. The app has an included directional pad, or you can use the accelerometer to control the car’s movement. Imagine the fun you could have driving this around the office! Tech savvy kids will love it too.

The appWheel – $15

The appWheel is a really cool accessory. I don’t know about you, but I always have trouble precisely controlling games that use the accelerometer, a problem which is easily solved with a wheel that allows for smaller, less jerky movements. Your iPhone or iPod Touch snaps into the center of the wheel, and it works with any tilt motion game. Of course, it works best with driving games, and will allow you to have more control and a more realistic experience.

HELO TC RC Helicopter – $49

This is another helicopter, from well-known iDevice accessory maker Griffin Technology. Like the appCopter, it is controlled with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. This stealthy looking helicopter uses an included flight dock which plugs in to your iDevice to broadcast a signal, and Griffin’s HELO TC app gives you advanced flight controls for a flying experience that can’t be replicated with a traditional controller. You can create and record flight paths around furniture and obstacles to challenge your friends, and you can even fly three helicopters at once thanks to different signal channels. This should be on every RC-loving iDevice owner’s Christmas wish list.

The Griffin HELO TC is available on the Griffin website, and the appToyz accessories are available through various manufacturers which are listed on the appToyz website.

The Helis are just modifed versions of the Syma S107 which can be had with it’s own controller for $26 on Amazon. Much better unless you just have to have the iOS controller (which is harder to use).

An even better indoor heli (IMHO) is the Blade mCX2 RTF
(about $120). Easy to fly and close to unbreakable…
