Chuggington: Terrific Trainee HD is Traintastic

Do you have a youngster that’s just obsessed with trains? If so, your child will love this all new train-centric app available for kids, from Starz Digital Media. Chuggington: Terrific Trainee! is based on the popular Chuggington TV show, which is available on the Disney Channel and aimed at children ages 2-7.

The app features 16 different missions starring Wilson, Brewster, Koko, and Action Chugger – all popular characters from the show. Children are able to interact with the trains using touch controls, causing the trains to jump, grow, fly, and plenty more.

When launching the app, you will be able to select from four different game levels. Every level features four rounds, each with a different character. In the game, children will be instructed by Vee to make item deliveries (of monkeys!), patrol the rails, and win races, just like on the show.

Children will need to change train tracks with simple finger gestures and activate features, such as speed boosts and jumps to help the trains on their missions. Each train has a special ability. For example, Wilson jumps, Brewster can grow bigger and stronger, Koko speeds down the track, and Action Chugger can fly through the air. There will also be obstacles to overcome, like fallen trees, oil spills, and cows.

Successfully completing a mission will earn a bronze, silver, or gold training badge along the way. There are two modes: easy and hard, making the game appropriate for several age levels.

I have a young cousin who loves all things trains, and he had a blast with this app, zooming along on the tracks, jumping over objects, and making important deliveries. Controlling the trains is a lot of fun, and I think any train-loving child will have a great time with this app.

What I liked: This game is great for children at several different age and skill levels, thanks to the separate difficulty modes. It’s also bright, colorful, and attention grabbing, all qualities that kids love.

What I didn’t like: The game is a little bit short. It took just an hour for my cousin to finish the game in its entirety.

To buy or not to buy: At just $2.99, this app is a steal, especially for train lovers and fans of the Chuggington television series.
