Fashionistas Can Get Their Fix with New NYT iPad App

There’s a new app available that iPad-owning fashion aficionados will love, coming to you from The New York Times. The Collection is an app that aggregates all of the fashion journalism from, including Thursday and Sunday Styles, T Magazine, The Moment, and the International Herald Tribune.

The app provides a magazine-style layout for easier browsing of the NYT’s fashion coverage, which includes editorial content, slideshows, videos, behind-the-scenes interviews, product trends, and street fashion.

Every story is represented with a photo, displayed in a grid to form a collage of dozens of fashion stories on each page. Tapping a photo gives more detail on the piece and its content, and a second tap opens the story.

The five sections of the app can be filtered into three categories: News, Trends, and Street and Runway. Street style is one of the NYT’s most popular features, and the section in the app has Bill Cunningham’s “On the Street” videos plus a weekly slideshow with fashion-oriented reader-submitted photographs from around the world.

In the Runway section, there are full collections from over 150 designers every season. Readers can check out the most recent shows or search by designer to find fashion trends in Milan, Paris, London, and New York. Readers’ favorite stories and styles can be shared with others on Facebook, Twitter, and email.

The Collection is currently available for free in the App Store, and will remain free until December 31. On January 1 of next year, readers will need to sign up for a New York Times subscription to keep full access to content, though limited content will be available to users for free. A tablet subscription will run $5 a week, but provides access to all NYT content.
