Teach Your Child About Friendship in the Rock ‘n Elephant Storybook – iPad App Review

Rock 'n Elephant - An Interactive Children's Story Book HDRock ‘n Elephant is an adorable interactive storybook written and illustrated by Dorit Leshnick. Join Rock as he embarks on a quest to find his best friend, Elephant. On his quest, Rock meets a number of new friends including a rolling pebble, a soft pile of sand, and a fiery flintstone that all help him to learn more about himself.

It is a cute story with a good message and as parents I think we can all appreciate that.

The developers of this app must have been psychic because they implemented every single feature I’ve been wishing for as I read and review interactive storybooks. As the text is read by the narrator, it is highlighted so your children can follow along. Once a page has been fully read, the text slides off screen to give an unobstructed view of the animated and interactive illustrations. Not to worry though, it can be brought back on screen and even repeated aloud easily. Move forward and backward through the story by clicking on the very easy to understand arrows at the bottom of each screen, making it simple for children to use.

If you take a peek through the menu while you are reading the story, you can choose to have tips display on the screen (visual cues for where the interactive elements are located and can be activated), record your own voice reading the story or click through to a specific page instead of moving back and forth manually.

What I liked: When you open the app you are greeted by all of the TabTale book titles on a virtual bookshelf. Even though this may cause you to spend more money buying more great books, it is nice to access them from a single location.

What I didn’t like: You need to explore a little to know about all of the great extras in the menu, it would be nice if there was a note or something on the opening screen that let parents know to look out for those!

To buy or not to buy: This is a fantastic storybook and I would recommend it to anyone!
