Apple Working on Enhanced Backlights for iPad 3′s Retina Display
DigiTimes has an all new Apple rumor for us this morning, claiming that Apple is considering two alternative backlight solutions for the iPad 3, which is supposed to have a 2048×1536 retina display.
At that resolution, the current single LED bar that was designed for the iPad 2 is not expected to be bright enough and will need modifications to increase its brightness.
One of the new LED light bar designs suggests using a single light bar with two LED chips inside, and another design involves dual-LED light bars. DigiTimes often dubious sources suggest that Apple is leaning towards the dual light bars, because LED back-light unit vendors have been able to produce a model that solves issues related to heat dissipation and battery consumption.
Whether this will come to fruition is anyone’s guess, as DigiTimes is notoriously hit or miss when it comes to Apple predictions. If DigiTimes is to be believed in its entirety, Apple is currently planning a total overhaul of its entire product line, and has two iPads in the works for next year.
