iPhone 4S Pre-Orders Top One Million in First 24 Hours

iPhone 4SFor a group of people so terribly disappointed by the release of the iPhone 4S in lieu of the beloved (and rumored) iPhone 5, they certainly didn’t seem to have a problem pre-ordering one of their own. According to Apple, advance orders for their new smartphone topped one million units in the first day alone.

This sales total marks a new record for Apple; an honor previously held by the iPhone 4 having sold 600,000 units the first day it was released.

And this is just day one. This number represents those of us who can’t stand the idea of the next guy having it a moment before we do. Once the devices hit consumer hands and reviews start rolling in, we can expect this number will increase exponentially.

While initial reactions to the iPhone 4S were not positive, most have come to realize that the changes are rather considerable. Utilizing the same A5 processor as the iPad 2, the upgraded smartphone also features an improved camera with advanced optics, improved battery life, redesigned antenna system for improved reception and Siri, a unique and powerful digital assistant. All of this in addition to shipping with the much hyped iOS 5.

Many carriers are offering pre-order options, allowing existing customers to upgrade their current phone and take delivery of the iPhone 4S upon their release on October 14, 2011. If you prefer, Apple is also taking advanced orders on unlocked devices, with prices a coming in higher than an upgrade but not requiring a contract commitment. For those wishing to have one in hand before taking the plunge, all 245 U.S. based Apple stores will begin selling the smartphone at 8:00AM local time on Friday.

Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller, expressed his delight with the sales results by saying, “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”

Really, I am just glad to know that there are at least 999,999 other geeks out there waiting on the edges of their seats until Friday when they can give this new device a whirl.

Did you order it in white or black?
