The developing team of FrogDogMedia and iStoryTime that brought you Kung Fu Panda 2 and The Smurfs Movie Story Time are back with a Halloween adventure for the whole family. Join Biscuit as he discovers the fun of Halloween in Biscuit Visits the Pumpkin Patch.
The book has three different reading features: Auto Play, Read to Me and Read to Myself. The narration for Auto Play and Read to Me is very pleasant and words are highlighted as they are spoken.
Each page has bits of animation here and there, like a doggie behind a pumpkin or a rabbit running by. There are dog treats hidden on each page and it is your young reader’s job to find them all.
There are two additional features included in this interactive story book: a coloring book and a sticker book. The app offers three different pictures, straight from the pages of the story, to color, 13 colors of crayons and three different thicknesses of lines. For the sticker book, there are 14 different stickers to place on three different backgrounds, allowing kids to create their own scene at the pumpkin patch.
I have to be honest, I found the extras to be a tad disappointing. The story is cute. The art is nice. The narration is pleasant. But the coloring book and sticker book were mediocre. When you drag your finger across the picture to color, it does not calibrate properly. I could not set the crayon to the proper spot on the page to save my life, and I’m not a five-year-old who is still learning to color. In the sticker book, the stickers are exactly the same for all three backgrounds. Each page should have had different stickers.
What I liked: The story is cute. The art works perfectly with a children’s book.
What I didn’t like: The coloring book and sticker book were lackluster.
To buy or not to buy: It is a great book and worth $2.99. I just hope the developers put a little more effort into the extras in the next update.
