Go Back to the Arcade with Old School Bricks – iPad Game Review

Old School BricksThis ain’t your momma’s Brick-Breaker! Old School Bricks takes an old school classic and gives it new life with a swarm of new features and just as much nostalgic charm.

There will be those of you who think brick-breaker games are a new thing, and it will bring me the same amount of sadness and pain as when I recently overheard a teenager talking about a single they were listening on on the radio by ‘this new band, Depeche Mode…’

Fortunately, Old School Bricks will appeal to the young as much as it does to those of us who are less young. The same basic premise exists, you slide your paddle across the bottom of the screen, bouncing your ball against a series of bricks in an effort to destroy them!

This game takes you well beyond the basics though, into a realm of upgrades and additions that keep you on the edge of your geeky seat for 60 levels of game-play! Features like hitting the victory brick to finish your level are nice and great for those that want to power through, but if you like to work at the highest score as opposed to the fastest finish then you need to watch out for the bonuses –catch them as they fall and tap them to activate!

Keep your eyes open for some of the cooler effects: setting your ball on fire, doubling the balls in play, speed reduction, safety walls for your paddle, extra life and more!

What I liked: This game is just enough memory mixed with the perfect amount of new that it’s irresistible.

What I didn’t like: I wish this game worked with the accelerometer and would let me just tilt my iPad from side to side to move my paddle.

To buy or not to buy: Thankfully this game has pause or people who play it might die from dehydration. Fantastic, easy and fun make this a great download. I can’t believe it’s free!
