There’s a new way to play games on your PC, Mac, and iPad thanks to a new app from Joypad that turns your iPhone into a nintendo-style controller with a D-Pad plus A and B buttons.
Your iPhone can become a controller using Joypad’s app (aptly named Joypad), which is available right now in the App Store. It currently supports games like Vertex Blaster and Super Mega Worm, and the company has made an SDK available so game developers can add Joypad support to their iPad and computer games.
Once the app has been installed on your phone, it can connect to other devices using Wi-Fi and Ad Hoc. The app features five different controller layouts, adjustable settings, and accelerometer controls. It’s specially designed to allow for combo button pressing, and multiplayer support will let you play with friends too. Various skins can be purchased in the app for $0.99, for example, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, GBA, and N64 skins.
There are several iOS games that currently work with the controller, including titles like Stardash, Vertex Blaster, Super Mega Worm, Arcade Jumper Meganoid, and Super Drill Panic.
For a full list of games, visit the Joypad website. To download the Joypad Game Controller app, visit the App Store. The ad-supported app is available for free, but an in-app purchase will remove them.
