Introduce Your Child to the Alphabet with VivaKids’ ABC – iPad App Review

VivaKids' ABCTeaching your child the alphabet can be a difficult task. My daughter has the ABC song completely memorized from start to finish but we are still working on actually identifying the individual letters, which is why I was very interested in taking a look at VivaKids ABC.

Designed by internationally renowned artist, author and educator Ulrike Kerber, this app is filled with animations, music and voices making it very engaging.

In this app, letters of the alphabet are presented individually with spoken descriptions. As letters are chosen and then shown, animations display with items that start with the corresponding letter and a narrator will inform your child of things like: ‘b is the first letter in boat’.

If you choose, your child can tap a button and be given the opportunity to trace over the uppercase and lowercase versions of the letter you are reviewing. This should help to reinforce their knowledge of the letter and how it is written.

This app feels like an episode of a television show, meaning the production value and quality of delivery are both very high; therefore, making it satisfying to use.

What I liked: I like that this app shows both the uppercase and lowercase letters (big and little as spoken in the app). So many of the educational alphabet apps out there only do one or the other and I think this can be confusing for children when they don’t see both versions of a letter as it is hard to equate them later.

What I didn’t like: I wish there was more interaction with the app, a lot of the learning time is spent watching and listening which isn’t always a strength with smaller children.

To buy or not to buy: If you are teaching your little person the alphabet, this is a nice app that could certainly help.
