Camera Boost Gets A Boost – iPad Photography Review
The first dedicated iPad 2 camera app, Camera Boost, recently received an update that overhauled the entire design, added spectacular new features and incorporated video capabilities. Calling the update “version 2” Chris Woods at Interealtime Software has turned what was already a stellar app into near perfection.
When PadGadget reviewed this app in April, we mentioned that it stood out because it offers real-time image altering. You can adjust camera effects from the display before you take a picture, allowing you to find the perfect mood before you even take the shot. It originally included lighting adjustments and a handful of effects to play around with.
Now, Camera Boost offers real-time image altering for videos. The app records in 960 x 720p, offers HDR capability and has a high speed processor to allow the use of multiple effects without slowing down the app. A list of preset features has been added so you can quickly establish an effect with just a tap. Each preset effect can be adjusted further in the FX section. Lighting, color hue, contrast, white balance, sharpness and focus can all be fine-tuned.
The app has also been redesigned. The user interface is much more linear and accessible. The UI was fine in the first version, but it has seen a huge improvement with the update.
What I liked: With the addition of video capabilities, this app has become the best iPad 2 camera app I have used so far. The high-speed processor makes it easy to switch between presets, increase or decrease effects and film in high definition with no issues.
What I didn’t like: Unfortunately, the app increased in price by $2. You are getting more for your money, so it is worth the extra two bucks, but it would have been even more awesome at its previous price.
To buy or not to buy: If you already own this app, update it today to take advantage of the amazing new features. Don’t kick yourself if you didn’t pick it up before the update. Although it has increased in price, it is absolutely worth the extra dollars.
