A New Kind of Environmental Impact with Toddler’s Seek & Find: My Little Town – iPad Game Review
When I sit down to review an app, I always install it and give it a whirl before I read anything about it. This gives me the opportunity to see how intuitive it is and to determine whether the purpose and use of the app is clear and easy to use. For a moment when I opened Toddler’s Seek & Find: My Little Town I was confused. Normally this would dissuade me, but after a moment I realized… this is the most interactive and interesting picture book I have ever had the fortune of using.
When you load the app, you select a scene and in a moment it is populated with more animations than you can imagine. The developers have found a way to breathe life into a still picture, and it really works well.
Those of you who are familiar with my reviews will know that I am a sucker for hand-drawn illustrations, and this app has them in spades. I really do love when art and the iPad collide, which is what happens here.
Your child will have the opportunity to flex their imaginations and apply their world-knowledge to choose where to tap and swipe the screen to see if they can bring something to life. Are you teaching your child to brush her teeth? She’s likely to spot the people brushing their teeth in the washroom of the house scene and give them a tap.
The developers say this app is best suited for children ages 18 months to 4 years, and I agree. My two year old had no difficulty learning to interact with this app and wasn’t at all bored even after being at it quite some time.

What I liked: I think it is brilliant that children can not only interact with the scene, but they need to think about how things work in order to make them fully come to life. Sure you can tap the people to have them get onto the bus, but then you can tap the bus to make it drive off down the road! These kinds of skills are more than just entertainment for children, they are learning opportunities teaching causality.
What I didn’t like: A quick verbal or written instruction when the app loads telling people what to expect or how to use the app would go a long way toward making this app that little bit stronger.
To buy or not to buy: If you have a young child that you want to spend time with, this app presents a great opportunity to sit together for a while.
