There’s certainly no shortage of speaker options available for the iPhone and the iPad, but technology and innovation are always improving our choices. We’ve hunted down two awesome new speakers for you: an ultra portable speaker from Soundmatters and an ultra adorable set of Angry Bird speakers from Gear4.
The foxLv2 Platinum Bluetooth speaker is a pocket-sized music system that promises to be the best sounding portable speaker available on the market, with smoother bass, more open highs, and increased output level capability.
foxLv2 takes advantage of a uniquely designed “Twoofer,” which is a combination of extreme high (tweeter) and low (woofer) frequencies that come from a small diameter dome speaker. This technology allows the company to produce a speaker that fits in your pocket but sounds like an entire sound system.
This speaker can connect to any music source with a standard audio cable, and it provides up to eight hours of sound on a single battery charge. Plugging it in gives it an increased wattage output for even better sound, and it features a 25-30’ Bluetooth range. A built-in wireless microphone allows you to use the speaker for phone calls, and a one-touch answer/end call button right on the speaker makes phone calls easy. Of course, design wise, this is one sleek looking speaker. If you need style, great sound, and ultra-portability, you won’t go wrong with the foxLv2.
The foxLv2 is neat, but if you need just a simple speaker for gaming and some light music playing, you might want to go with something a little less expensive. And if that something resembled the well-loved characters from your favorite game, that would be even better, right? Well, Gear4 has you covered, with some super cute officially licensed speakers that resemble the birds and pigs from Rovio’s Angry Birds.
These speakers come in three designs: Red Bird, Black Bird, and Helmet Pig. I’ve seen the Angry Bird plush toys and have been unimpressed, but these speakers are so much better looking. I’m not an Angry Birds fanatic or anything, but I can’t help but think one of these would look great on my desk.
The bird speakers each feature a 3.5mm jack for use with all kinds of mobile devices, plus a separate matching stand. The pig speaker was designed for use with an iPhone or iPod touch, and has a built-in dock. All of the speakers have volume and bass controls, and the pig comes with a remote. If you’re an Angry Birds fan, or just like the characters, these are must-have speakers that will look great anywhere in your house.
The foxLv2 is available on the Soundmatters’ website for $169 and $199, for the non-Bluetooth and Bluetooth versions, respectively. The Angry Birds speakers will be released soon and are currently available for pre-order on the Gear4 website. The Red and Black Bird speakers retail for $79.99, and the Helmet Pig retails for $99.
