Comcast to Add Live TV to Xfinity iPad App
Cablevision and Time Warner have had streaming television available on iPads for quite some time, and now Comcast, the largest cable and internet provider in the United States, is poised to release its new live streaming service.
Comcast’s new live streaming product is known as AnyPlay, and like its competitors, it will allow Comcast subscribers to watch live television on their iPads while connected to their home network.
Comcast subscribers interested in using the service will need to have a special Motorola box, which will convert the live cable feed to IPTV and push it to the already existing Xfinity TV iPad app over local wireless networks. According to Engadget, AnyPlay will use the Motorola Televation cable TV-to-IPTV box.
Previously, the Xfinity app only allowed Comcast users to watch on demand television shows as well as access TV listings and DVR settings. AnyPlay will not work over Wi-Fi or 3G when away from home, but that’s to be expected.

AnyPlay users will be able to watch “most” of the channels that are included with the Xfinity TV service, and while 10 tablets can be registered, only a single tablet can stream live TV at one time.
Release dates have not been made available yet, but Comcast plans to distribute AnyPlay in limited markets before the service spreads to all Comcast customers.
