ACSI: Apple Tops the Charts for Customer Satisfaction

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) recently released a report covering customer satisfaction with personal computers, major appliances and electronics.

The results are in. Apple outshines all other major personal computer companies in the category of consumer contentment.

The company’s founder, Claes Fornell, said that Apple’s ability to stay on the cutting edge is due to a combination of innovation and product diversification. Since 2000, Apple has been the leader in customer satisfaction for personal computers. This year, due in part to the popularity of the iPad, the company has increased its margin to nine points above its closest competitor, Hewlett Packard. Apple’s stock price has grown 2,300 percent in the past eight year and the company consistently sets records in customer satisfaction of personal computers. While Apple continues to grow in customer satisfaction, Windows-based PCs have seen a flattening out on the scale with a score of 78.

In a press release, the ACSI stated, “As the demand for traditional desktop PCs weakens, the tablet computer market is skyrocketing—led by Apple’s iPad. Apple’s record of customer satisfaction preeminence in the personal computer industry continues unabated in 2011, as the company adds another point to its already exceptional score.”

Apple’s innovation has paid off to the tune of $9 billion dollars generated from the iPad alone in its first year. The company’s desktop and laptop computer business has also grown by 16 percent, year-over-year in the second quarter of 2011 and stock prices increased by 50 percent in the past year. With numbers like these, it is no wonder Apple’s customer satisfaction continues to soar above the rest.
