Samsung Files Cross Suit Against Apple in Australia. Crikey!
Following Apple’s successful bid to halt sales of the Galaxy Tab in Germany, Samsung has filed an appeal in Dusseldorf, hoping to get the ruling overturned.
Samsung’s globe-trotting lawyers also filed suit against Apple in Australia, alleging copyright infringement. This isn’t the first time Apple and Samsung have duked it out in the land down under, either.
Back in August, Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung in Australia, and the two companies came to an agreement, stating that Samsung would neither advertise nor sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia. If Apple did not win the patent infringement case, the company would be required to pay Samsung an unspecified amount.
On Friday, following the German ban, Samsung filed a cross claim in Australia, stating that the iPhone and the iPad infringe on seven of Samsung’s patents related to wireless communications standards.
Apple and Samsung have been fighting an increasingly tense legal battle across the world, and Samsung’s Australian claim is just one of many the company has filed as it struggles against Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Apple began the patent wars earlier this year when it filed against Samsung in several countries for grossly copying Apple’s iDevices. Lawsuits are still pending in both the U.S. and in Asia, but so far, Apple is pulling ahead.
