Help Celebrate Flori’s Birthday in this Interactive Children’s Book – iPad App Review
Flori the sweet little giraffe is having a birthday party in this fun children’s book. Will you join her and her friends Zebri, Tino, Nala, and Mia to celebrate?
This children’s story is not only a book, it’s also a game with several activities that children can enjoy, such as baking a cake, setting the table, taking pictures, and singing songs.
Flori’s story starts as soon as you hit the green arrow on the main page. It’s narrated with a loud, clear voice, but unfortunately, the narration sounds monotone and a slight accent can make understanding some of the words difficult. Luckily, there are great interactive elements on every page which make up for the lack of inflection in the narration.
Poor Flori accidentally burns her cake, and so kids must help her remake it, choosing the ingredients and pouring them into the bowl. After the cake is finished, kids then get to help decorate it with whipped cream, jelly beans, and candles. This is a fun activity, but definitely needs more toppings to play with.
Once the cake is decorated, a picture can be taken and saved in the Flori album, and shared later with family. There are a few other activities to take part in, such as setting the table, taking more pictures of the festivities, and recording a birthday song. Additionally, there are animations and sounds on each page to keep children entertained.
This story has a cute idea behind it and the illustrations are colorful with engaging characters and fun activities. With just a few tweaks, this interactive children’s book could turn out great.
What I liked: Baking the cake was fun, although stirring wasn’t entirely intuitive. I also really enjoyed the characters and the illustrations.
What I didn’t like: I didn’t care for the narration in this story. It was flat, the inflections were off, and some of the words were hard to understand. I couldn’t find a way to get back to the main menu once I started the story, which was frustrating. There is no way to turn off the narration without turning off the text too.
To buy or not to buy: This is a fun interactive story that’s worth $0.99 to play though once or twice. Kids will love helping Flori bake cakes and prepare for her party.
