Plan or Dream with the TRVL free Travel Magazine – iPad App Review
Armed with the goal of covering the world one issue at a time, TRVL is a free travel magazine that details a new location each time. Filled with gorgeous photography and interesting stories, these magazines are a joy to read if you are a travel enthusiast.
Current issues of TRVL feature locations such as Cambodia, Lisbon, Bolivia and Moscow, taking you on a virtual tour of these exotic destinations.
The app lets you preview each issue and you only need to download the ones you are interested in and want to read. This is a nice feature for those of us who have our iPads crammed full and have storage concerns.
Interactive maps and slideshows add to the value of this magazine, and integrated social media lets you share things with your friends.
While the app itself is free as are the issues of the magazine, it appears that there are in-app purchases available for additional coffee table style virtual books.
Not all issues are tied to a single location. There is one for ‘worldwide whale watching’ or a more general ‘game parks of South Africa’. This is nice for those that have interests in a more general topic and may not know where to go to participate or learn more.
Using the app was very easy. Issues were quick to download and feature the ability to bookmark your spot so you can read through them as you have time.
What I liked: The photography is where this app really shines. I found the pictures were a little more ‘real world’ than most magazines, where the pictures look posed and perfect and not at all like you will really experience if you travel to these locations.
What I didn’t like: It would be nice to know when the next issue will be published, and I found myself wondering what the upcoming issues may be focused on so I know whether I am interested and looking forward to them.
To buy or not to buy: The quality of the publications is quite remarkable considering the app is free.
